National Honor Society Selection Criteria
The National Honor Society is a national organization that promotes four pillars of excellence – character, scholarship, leadership and service. The Tucson High Magnet School chapter of the National Honor Society was chartered on March 30, 1923, making this year its ninety-two year anniversary. Selection to this distinguished group is an honor bestowed by the faculty in accordance with procedures outlined by the constitution on the National Honor Society.
The submitted student applications will be reviewed by a faculty council with the chapter’s advisers serving as ex-officio (non-voting) members. Additionally, the entire faculty is polled to gain a better overall picture of the citizenship and character of prospective members. After thorough review of the applications, students who are nominated by this council will be invited to become members of the National Honor Society.
Eligibility
Nomination is open to sophomores and juniors who have attended THMS for at least one full semester. Although the basic eligibility is a cumulative scholastic average of at least 3.40 (where “A” = 4.00), nomination for membership is never considered on the basis of grades alone. You are required to complete an application designed to portray your interest in membership, personal character, and activities in service and leadership as well as your academic history. Selection to the National Honor Society is based on all these factors, as well as the faculty’s personal knowledge of the student.
Applications
Please click below for the application packet if you meet the minimum GPA requirement. You will also need to print TWO teacher recommendation forms. All materials due by Friday, February 12th at 3:30 p.m. to V120 or V312.
